Genetic counseling built
for fertility medicine.
Grey Genetics partners with fertility clinics, reproductive endocrinology practices, gynecology groups, and donor banks and agencies to provide independent genetic counseling across the full spectrum of reproductive genetics — from pre-IVF assessment to PGT counseling, donor evaluation, and beyond.
Where genetic counselors add value in your practice
Infertility genetic assessment
Patients presenting with infertility may have an underlying genetic etiology. A genetic counselor can evaluate personal and family history, discuss possible genetic contributions, identify relevant testing, and help the clinical team understand findings in context — before treatment decisions are made.
Recurrent pregnancy loss
Patients with recurrent pregnancy loss often have questions about genetic contributions — chromosomal, single-gene, or otherwise. A genetic counselor can evaluate the clinical picture, discuss the evidence for various etiologies, and guide appropriate testing and next steps.
Pre-IVF family history assessment
ASRM guidelines recommend a review of personal and family history of genetic disease before starting IVF treatment — and for egg and sperm donors. Genetic counselors are trained to take the most thorough history and identify whether further workup is appropriate before a cycle begins.
Carrier screening
ACMG and ACOG recommend that expanded carrier screening be offered to all patients considering pregnancy. When a carrier couple is identified or when a result is unclear, a genetic counselor provides the clinical perspective your team and patients need. We can also provide pre-test genetic counseling and coordinate screening when needed.
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT)
Any patient considering PGT should be offered consultation with a genetic counselor. For PGT-M specifically, ASRM's 2023 committee opinion recommends that initial counseling be provided by a genetic counselor unaffiliated with the PGT laboratory. ACOG Committee Opinion 799 (reaffirmed 2023) similarly supports genetic counseling for patients undergoing PGT-M and PGT-SR. Grey Genetics covers PGT-M, PGT-A, and PGT-SR — including mosaic embryo results, which require particularly balanced and up-to-date guidance.
Donor gamete review, gestational carrier assessment, and testing coordination
ASRM's 2024 gamete donation guidance strongly recommends offering recipients the option of having their directed donor's family history reviewed by a certified genetic counselor. Grey Genetics provides this service for egg, sperm, and embryo donors. We can also coordinate any indicated testing. For gestational carrier arrangements, ASRM recommends that all genetic contributors be offered appropriate genetic evaluation, including expanded carrier screening — we can coordinate this review across your cases and work with donor banks and agencies that need clinical interpretation support for their staff.
Fertility preservation counseling
Young patients facing cancer treatment that may affect their fertility (chemotherapy, radiation, or risk-reducing surgery) need timely conversations about their reproductive options before treatment begins. A genetic counselor can help these patients understand what preservation options are available, discuss the implications of their diagnosis for family planning, and coordinate with their oncology and fertility teams. This also applies to patients with a hereditary condition who are weighing prophylactic surgery and want to understand their fertility preservation options before taking those next steps.
Why Grey Genetics for your practice
Grey Genetics counselors have no affiliation with any PGT laboratory or testing company. In a specialty where lab-based counselors are common and the potential for conflict of interest is well recognized, working with an independent GC means your patients receive recommendations based entirely on their clinical picture — including when a particular test or laboratory may not be the right fit.
We also offer flexibility that a single employed GC cannot. Whether your practice needs ongoing support across your full patient volume, coverage for specific case types, or overflow when your in-house GC is at capacity, we can design an arrangement that works.
How it works
For practices that want to integrate genetic counseling services into their workflow, we set up a contracted arrangement that fits how you already operate. That means dedicated booking links, records shared through whatever secure system you use, and consult notes back to your practice after every appointment. Patients can self-schedule, or your staff can schedule on their behalf.
For occasional referrals, no contract is needed. Patients self-schedule and pay directly. A consult note is provided to the patient and shared with your practice on request.
All Grey Genetics counselors are board-certified. Appointments are available via telehealth, with no geographic limitations.
