Grey Genetics is a platform for experienced, qualified genetic counselors committed to providing unhurried, independent genetic counseling.

What it is

An independent contractor platform. You set your own schedule and choose the appointment types you're available for. Grey Genetics provides the infrastructure, professional liability coverage, and payment processing — so you can focus on your patient.

Who it's for

Board-certified genetic counselors (ABGC or CBGC/CCCG) who want to see patients independently. Graduates of other accredited programs are also welcome to inquire.

Start with the interest form. From there, you'll be able to schedule a 30-minute orientation with Eleanor.

What the network provides

Infrastructure for independent practice

Grey Genetics handles the infrastructure so you can focus on patients. As an independent contractor on the Network, you have:

HIPAA-compliant video conferencing, records storage, and email (Google Workspace)
Scheduling with integrated intake forms and payment processing (Acuity)
Professional liability insurance — included
Payment processing and direct deposit to your bank account
A physician partner to facilitate test ordering as needed
Your own public profile page with a dedicated URL and individual booking link

Fees & Compensation

Transparent by design

Grey Genetics operates on a straightforward cost-sharing model. Here's what to expect:

One-time background check $26.25 (or $36.75 if you've used more than one name)

Monthly Network fee $17.58/month

Grey Genetics service percentage 20% of revenue received per appointment

You keep 80% of revenue received per appointment

Professional liability insurance $0 — included

The monthly fee reflects the cost of your Grey Genetics Google Workspace account, which includes your Grey Genetics email address, HIPAA-compliant records storage, and Google Calendar integration. These fees are passed through at cost and may increase if the costs for these services increase. The monthly Network fee renews automatically each month.

Example: For a $250 consultation, after credit card processing fees (approx. 2.93% + $0.30), Grey Genetics receives $243.84. Your payment: $195.07 (80%). Grey Genetics service fee: $48.77 (20%).

Payment is made from the Grey Genetics business account directly to your bank account, typically within a week of Grey Genetics receiving payment. Independent contractors are responsible for their own taxes. Grey Genetics will issue a 1099-NEC when required by U.S. tax law.

A secure email add-on is available for $8/month.

Grey Genetics works well for genetic counselors who:

– Want to offer independent genetic counseling services directly to patients — as their primary practice, part-time, or alongside a full-time position
– Practice in a specialty area where patient demand exists but independent access to a board-certified genetic counselor is limited
– Have physicians, colleagues, or personal connections who want to refer patients to them — and you want the professional infrastructure to receive them, including a profile page and booking link you can share
– Are comfortable working independently with Google Workspace, video conferencing, and online lab ordering portals — or are willing to get up to speed quickly on their own
– Are committed to inclusive, patient-centered care. Grey Genetics welcomes patients of all backgrounds, identities, and orientations, and expects the same from every genetic counselor on the Network.

Getting started

Joining the Network

Registration is a multi-step process. Here's what to expect:

Express interest and schedule an orientation

Fill out a Google form to share your background and interests, then schedule a 30-minute Network orientation with Eleanor. You'll be asked to upload your diploma and board certification certificate when scheduling, and to sign an NDA so that we can speak freely about client relationships, potential patient volume in your specialty areas, and other specifics.

Complete initial registration requirements

At any time after your orientation, if you'd like to move forward: complete a background check ($26.25), pay the first month's Network fee, review and sign the Grey Genetics Confidentiality Agreement, and pass a related HIPAA quiz. These steps can be completed at your own pace.

Sign your independent contractor agreement and complete onboarding

Once your Grey Genetics email address and Acuity account have been created, you'll receive your independent contractor agreement and your onboarding materials, including a handful of trainings to complete within the Grey Genetics Google Workspace.

Activate your profile

Provide a headshot (800×800), complete your profile using the template provided, and — ideally — record a brief video introduction. Once your profile is live on the Network, you'll have full control over your calendar and scheduling availability through Acuity.
