About Helen
Helen is a board-certified genetic counselor, educator, and advocate for reproductive and disability justice in and outside of clinic. She received her Master of Science in Human Genetics & Genetic Counseling from Stanford University and started her clinical career as the sole cancer genetic counselor at a community hospital serving BIPOC patients in Los Angeles. She has previously counseled prenatal, pediatric, cancer, neuro, Alzheimer’s, pharmacogenomics, and cardiogenetics patients remotely across the U.S. through a telehealth company, then returned to south LA as a genetic counselor and public engagement associate at the Personal Genetics Education Project (PGED), where she worked to raise public awareness and facilitate dialogue on the ethical, social, and legal dimensions of engaging with genetic technologies.
Helen has collaborated and co-created educational sessions on various genetic health topics with BIPOC community health partners and nonprofits, culminating with a prenatal genetics workshop in the maternal infant health track at the 25th reproductive justice conference by Black Women for Wellness. She has also been involved in educating genetic counselors and trainees, having led the 2023 NSGC community conversation on reproductive justice and its intersection with the disability community, as well as teaching second-year genetic counseling students on the global history of disability justice.
Helen counsels in English and Korean.
