Consult Types and Fees

For New Clients

Cancer Genetics Consult – $200

A cancer genetics consult includes review of 3-4 generations of your family health history, with a focus on cancer diagnoses. We discuss the likelihood of a hereditary contribution to cancer diagnoses in your family. We also discuss if and how current clinical genetic testing could help to further clarify your cancer risks and impact your recommended cancer screenings as well as overall personalized plan of care. If you’ve already had genetic testing ordered, we will review those results with you too. We will also discuss implications of any testing results for your family members. Up to 1 hour. Consult note summarizing personal and family health history and discussion sent by encrypted email within 2 days after appointment. If, after counseling, you are interested in having cancer genetic testing done, we will work with your chosen healthcare provider to order testing and be available to them for any questions they may have about your results and the implications for your personalized plan of care. (We will only discuss your case with your healthcare provider if you give us explicit permission to do so.)

If you have a family member who received cancer counseling through Grey Genetics and recommendations provided included counseling and/or testing for other family members, consult price is $100. Please include full name of family member only when filling out intake forms through secure, HIPAA-compliant portal.

Family Planning Genetics Consult – $200

A family planning genetics consult includes review of 3 generations of your family health history, with a focus on known or possible genetic diagnoses in the family, birth defects, and history of pregnancy loss. We discuss the likelihood of passing down conditions that may run in your family as well as well as the likelihood of genetic conditions or birth defects for which you have no family history. We review the current (and rapidly changing) genetic testing options for expectant and aspiring parents and help you think through which options align best with your values, goals and priorities. If you or your partner have had genetic testing ordered, we will review those results with you too. Up to 1 hour. Consult note summarizing personal and family health history and discussion sent by encrypted email within 2 days after appointment. If, after counseling, you are interested in having genetic testing done related to a current or future pregnancy, we will work with your chosen healthcare provider to order testing and be available to them for any questions they may have about your results and the implications for your family planning. (We will only discuss your case with your healthcare provider if you give us explicit permission to do so.)

Cardiovascular Genetics Consult – $200

A cardiovascular genetics consult includes review of 3-4 generations of your family health history, with a focus on known cardiovascular diagnoses as well as signs and symptoms that may be associated with hereditary cardiovascular conditions. We discuss the possibility of a hereditary cardiovascular condition (including cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias and familial hypercholesterolemia); how genetic testing may or may not support a clinical diagnosis; risks for other family members and implications of any test results for other family members. Up to 1 hour. Consult note summarizing personal and family health history and discussion sent by encrypted email within 2 days after appointment. If, after counseling, you are interested in having cardiovascular genetic testing done, we will work with your cardiologist or primary care provider to order testing and be available to them for any questions they may have about your results and the implications for your medical management. (We will only discuss your case with your healthcare provider if you give us explicit permission to do so.)

Healthy Genetics Consult – $250

This consult type is designed for patients who don’t have any specific areas of concern but are interested in a thorough review of their family history to uncover any potential indications for genetic testing or family health history that might suggest a change to a personalized plan of care. If you’ve read about or thought about doing a “Healthy Exome” test, this consult can serve as pre-test counseling to help you decide if that’s something you would like to pursue and to prepare you for the range of possible results. We will also discuss limitations of WES and examine whether other, more targeted and sensitive testing may be appropriate for you. Up to 1 hour. Consult note summarizing personal and family history and discussion sent by encrypted email within 2 days after appointment.

Genetics Consult & Review of Direct-to-Consumer Test Results – $275

Includes family history intake, risk assessment, review of DTC (Direct-To-Consumer) genetic test results, select “raw data” filtered through a third party service, and discussion of the limitations of DTC test results. Each consult will have a pre-determined area of focus depending on the specifics of your test results and your major interests and concerns. Up to 1 hour. Results should be sent to Grey Genetics a week in advance of consult date. Consult note summarizing personal and family history and discussion sent by encrypted email within 2 days after appointment. There are significant limitations to many DTC tests and to the accuracy and usability of “raw data.”  $50 discount applied if third party service used was Promethease. Use Code “Promethease” when booking.

Genetics Chat – $50

A conversation around your genetics-related concerns and interests. This can be a great option if you have some questions but are not ready to book a full consult. Does Not include full review of personal and family health history, review of any test results, personalized risk assessment, or consult note. If a full genetics consult is subsequently scheduled, this fee will be applied toward the cost of that service. Common topics include family planning and genetic testing options; cancer family history; the value of various genetic testing options, including analytical and interpretive differences and limitations of direct-to-consumer testing options (ex. 23andMe). Up to 30 min.
